I am particular about letterforms. I have never been a fan of lettering or typefaces that feel un-constructed or loose like messy handwriting. I love the shapes in carefully drafted letters and typefaces and I can spend hours drawing and re-drawing a letter until I like how it looks, even before I get to the digitizing phase of the project.
Poivre Black is my first experimental display typeface that was inspired by the cut paper letters I once used in a collage project. It was first adapted for a typography class project, but in 2022 I completely re-drew and expanded the set to include a full set of glyphs.
The letters and special characters were digitized in Adobe Photoshop and a font was created using the FontSelf plugin. Because it is a raster font, it has limited use, but someday it may become a grown-up font.
